Atlanta rapper Shawty Dred, whose legal name is Mercedes New, was indicted in a federal SNAP and EBT fraud case, according to reporting published by Rolling Stone on October 22, 2026.
Prosecutors allege the nationwide scheme involved roughly $42 million. About $4.4 million is allegedly tied to New, and prosecutors allege links to more than 500 Georgia-issued EBT cards.
The case follows an earlier arrest in East Point, Georgia.
An indictment is an allegation, not a finding of guilt. The charges have not been established as fact, and any party named is entitled to the presumption of innocence.
